Drug Testing Welfare and Foodstamp recipients - why stop there?
UPDATE: HERE IS LIVING PROOF THAT WHAT I WRITE HERE NEEDS TO HAPPEN - A STATE REP IN FLORIDA - WHO WANTED MANDATORY DRUG TESTING FOR WELFARE RECIPIENTS JUST GOT BUSTED FOR COCAINE: READ ABOUT HIM HERE The Michigan House recently passed a measure to require anyone receiving welfare benefits to be tested for drug use (read about it here). A decade or so ago Governor Engler tried the same thing, but the Courts struck it down. Okay, so lets go with the premise - folks getting taxpayer money should be certified DRUG FREE. Yeah baby, we do not want our hard earned tax dollars to get folks high. At first, I was put off by this idea. Seemed a tad invasive. I have seen the light brothers and sisters. In fact, the light I saw was SO DANG BRIGHT, it made me realize EVERYONE who LIVES ON TAX $$$ should be drug tested - starting with Michigan legislators and their staff. (for some relaxing music click here) According to the Mackinac Center for Public Policy (not exactly a bunch of lefties), the max amount a single parent with two kids might receive in Federal and State money in Michigan is $28,872.00 per year. For discussion, we will call that dollar amount a "Welfare House". The BASE pay, with expense allotment, for a member of the Michigan House or Senate is $82,445.00 a year of the equivalent of 2.85 Welfare Houses for each member. I was not able to ascertain staff pay in a reasonable manner, so we will leave that as an unknown at this point. There are 38 Michigan Senators and 110 Representative for 148 total. Their combined BASE salaries, never mind staff, is equal to 421.8 Welfare Houses. Think of potential savings - as a former resident of Lansing, I can guarantee you there is drug use among the legislators. We can find even MORE savings when we bump this up to the FEDERAL level. The BASE pay for members of the house and senate is $174,000 a year. There are 435 members of the house and 100 Senators. The combined total here is $93,030,000.00 or the equivalent of 3,224.23 welfare houses. When we add staff, it gets more fun. My rough calculations indicate the (low) average staff wage in Washington is $74,970 or 2.59 welfare houses. Representatives are limited to only 18 staff members, but there is NO LIMIT to Senate staff. Lets just play with 18 staff members for all 535 folks = 9,630 staff members. That is equal to 24,941.7 Welfare Houses. Do you think anyone in Washington DC who gets our tax $ does any kind of drug?? State Senator Hildenbrand should allow us to test him. |
$82,485.00 salary/expenses = 2.85 welfare homes. (not including health/retirement benefits) |
Justin Amash would have nothing to hide - test him. |
$174,000 salary = 6.02 welfare households. Not including health/retirement benefits. |
Senator Debbie "Double Dip" Stabenow needs to be tested. She receives AT LEAST
$174,000 salary plus $52,438 pension = $226,438.00 or 7.84 welfare houses.
WHY IS DICK POTHUMOUS SMILING? Could be because he gets $170,000 salary as "advisor" to Governor Snyder plus a $92,489 pension = $262,489 or 9.09 welfare houses.
Let's see what is in Dick's pee, eh?
ONE MORE STEP - Think of the BILLIONS in Corporate handouts of our tax dollars.
Tyson Foods, Monsanto, General Motors, Bank of America - PICK ONE - hell, pick ten.
They receive millions and BILLIONS of tax funded aid and subsidies.
Let's get busy drug testing them.
Oh, cool thing about the idea from the Michigan House drug test is that it is self-funded. Any welfare recipient who tests positive has to pay for their own test.
GREAT IDEA LADIES AND GENTLEMEN - let's just apply it to everyone.
