Nicely done - the red herring of taxes.

What a great job of sleight of hand. What a wonderful Red Herring we are being served up. With elections just a few weeks away, political strategists have played their trump card. The goal to get us arguing about income taxes. That way we might forget about: A (unfunded) war that has been going on for 7-9 years. The Wall Street heist. Foreclosures. Unemployment. The widening gap between haves & have-nots in America. The futility of The War on Drugs. A real solution to immigration. 500 million barrels of oil in the Gulf. Continuing sale of derivative stocks. Any number of other real issues. Conservatives point to Ronald Reagan as The One and love the notion of trickle down economics. Well, the author of Trickle Down under Reagan was David Stockman. Are Corporations "evil"? Well, by their very make-up - Probably.

This is inspired by a discussion I was a part of on Facebook. The subject was taxes and the left and right weighed in and at one point someone from the right asked someone from the left, "Are corporations evil? They employ people, etc etc." I had an epiphany. The very nature of a corporation is our undoing in the end. One of the main reasons, if not THE main reason corporations were created was to put distance between a real person and his/her business. The idea of forming a "corporation" is to keep my personal assets separate from those of my business. That way if something goes wrong, e.g. you fall in my store and break your leg - you can't sue me personally and take my motorcycle. The amount of damage you can do is limited to the assets of the corporation/store. (LLC = Limited Liability Corporation says it all.)
