Five Stars for Hillis Brothers Painting

Why would I give the Hillis Brothers Painting Company a Five Star rating/review?

Glad you asked.

Before we chase that answer down, how about a look at how our house used to look. Nice, but a wee bit boring not to mention the need for massive amounts of scraping, caulk and paint. We have lived here for five years now and the paint job was over 20 years old, so change was in order.

I am not one of those who toss out reviews, much less five star ratings, with abandon. There really is no one thing I can point to in order to justify my happiness with Hillis Brothers. Step one came into the picture when we sought bids for our house last year. We got three. The prices were similar, but Hillis offered a two year warranty on their work, the other companies offered one.

The next element was Alana, she came and met with Julie about color choices. She asked Julie for our favorite colors with the instruction that she not think about the house before she answered. Julie loves greens and I like blues and purples. Alana listened (what a concept, huh? listening to your customer) and the two of them worked up this color palate for our house. We wanted something bold, but we did not want to come home to circus. We wanted colors that were age appropriate to the house while still making an artistic statement.

The next Hillis team member to show up was Marty with his powerful power washing set up. He was right on time and made pretty quick work of cleaning the house and taking off a ton of loose paint in the process. After letting the wood dry for a couple of days, The Crew began to show up. You know that feeling you get when you are working with someone who enjoys what they do? Well, we got that impression from everyone who worked on our house.

They made short work of our old Victorian. Not all of these preppers and painters showed up every day, but we sure want to mention all of them because of the outstanding job they did and the terrific attitude with which they did it. A big shout out of appreciation goes to: Marty, Johnny, Freddie, Annabella, Lisset, Charlie, Mitchell, Bobby, Rusbel, and Norma. From the opening conversations with Alana and all through the entire process, we were told what was going to happen and when. They NEVER left the jobsite with any kind of mess - all the chipped off paint was vacuumed up and taken away. These folks even put little traffic cones in front of the pile of ladders they left in our driveway lest we run into them.

We could not be more pleased with the way our house turned out. In the short time since completion, almost every time we are in the yard on in front of the house someone from the neighborhood compliments us on house nice the house looks. For the first three or four days after they finished, Julie and I would go outside and walk around the house just to admire their handiwork.

The only thing they did not do on time was finish the house. THEY WERE DONE A DAY EARLY. We had a small punch list - some very minor things - and Charlie let me point them out and he was smiling the entire time. We even asked if they would put a dab of paint on all the brand new screws they used to re-hang our storm windows. Ah, there were a LOT of them but they had all of them covered and punch list done in less time than it takes to say "Hillis Brothers Painting".

Here are a couple examples of how our house looks now. It jumps - it has personality.

This picture illustrates the attention to detail that demonstrates why we are so happy with Hillis Brothers. This is just COOL, to continue to colors on the utility boxes.  We really feel that our home is now a much better reflection of who we are.

We really feel that our home is now a much better reflection of who we are. We are a little bit wild, but not overly so. Our house now feels much more like it is ours.

From start to finish, we could not be happier with every member of the Hillis Brothers crew. Probably the main reason I left them a five star review: I do not see Six Stars as an option.
